LEGACY 7 Day Nutritional Feeding System Koi will eat practically anything humans will eat. They are classified as "omnivores" which means they will eat foods which are derived from plants and animals. It is important to make sure your Koi get fed a daily diet that is "well balanced" The MICROBE-LIFT/LEGACY 7 day Balanced Feeding System is prepared to provide the highest level of required nutrients. All six nutrients are formulated into all Microbe-Lift/ Koi & Goldfish Foods. There are proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water (moisture content). These nutrients provide your Koi with body heat, energy, growth material and strengthen their immune system. Every Koi has its own nutrient requirements due to its individual size, sex, environment and genetic make-up. Koi are ravenous feeders. They will consume a lot of food in short periods. Koi have no stomach, so while we say it is important to feed them at least twice a day, morning and evening, smaller feedings more often is the more preferred method. Water temperature is the most important factor in determining what kind of food to feed your fish. The quantity of food required also depends on the size of the fish. The Koi's "biological rate" is the rate at which the energy derived from their food is utilized (metabolic rate). It is influenced by the temperature of your pond's water. Depending on water temperature, choose one of the three primary foods and feed it three days per week (every other day). Alternate with the two supplemental foods (Fruits and Greens and Immunostimulant) four days per week ( every other day). When following the MICROBE-LIFT/Legacy 7 day Balanced Feeding System your fish will have a totally balanced diet while achieving maximum health benefits.
MICROBE-LIFT / LEGACY foods are made by the extrusion process - not pelleting. During extrusion the cell walls of all organic substances contained in the food are disintegrated under pressure. The nutrients hidden in these cells are thus easily accessible for digesting agents, resulting in much higher digestibility in comparison with pelleted or flaked food. Additionally the LEGACY foods have an extremely low phosphorous content. This keeps fish waste to a minimum and helps to ensure superior water quality.

In the late spring when the warmer
temperatures arrive, Koi and Goldfish need a boost of protein for growth
since they have depleted their fat reserves over the winter. In the fall a
higher protein diet is also required since pond fish need to bulk up in
preparation for their winter diet Use this feed at a minimum temperature
of 68 degrees F. Pond fish really start to grow at this temperature. You
can use this feed up to four times per day. 
As the warmer weather sets in, begin increasing the
frequency and quantity of your feeding. The Summer Staple Food has the
animal protein and color enhancers that are needed during this season. The
added color enhancers are made up of astaxanthin (crab shell), spirulina
and krill, which all promote brilliant color development.
In the cold weather during spring and fall
when the night-time temperature goes below 55 degrees F. feed the Cold
Weather formula. When the pond water's temperature drops, the fish require
a highly digestible cool-water diet. The cold water diet is made with
lesser amounts of protein but contains wheat germ which is easily digested
and also contains a higher level of fats.
Feed above 68 degrees F. Alternate feeding the two supplemental foods
every other day (four days per week). Due to their lower protein content
they can be alternated with the Cold Weather formula during cold
temperatures as well. The Montmorillonite Clay provides additional
minerals which help provide more immunity against viruses commonly found
in pond environments. Additional quantities of vitamins are also blended
into this food. Montmorillonite Clay also acts as a toxin binder by
neutralizing the metabolic toxins.
