MelaFix Dimilin PimaFix Pond Salt
Stress Coat Fish Protectant Wound Healant Salt Treatment

      melafix

  PondCare® MelaFix®

Antibacterial remedy for the treatment of koi and goldfish diseases including eye cloud, mouth fungus and fin & tail rot. All-natural antibacterial remedy rapidly repairs damaged fins, ulcers and open wounds. Use when adding new fish to the pond. Safe for snails and other invertebrates. Will not harm aquatic plants, affect the pH or adversely affect the biological filter.

pond, water garden, pond supplies, koi fish, goldfish, aquatic plants

Purpose and Benefits:

PondCare MelaFix is an all-natural medication derived from the leaves of "Melaleuca", the scientific name for the Tea Tree. MelaFix has powerful antibacterial properties that treat the wound and promote rapid tissue healing. Healing and tissue regeneration in koi and goldfish can usually be seen in the first four days of treatment.

Disease-causing organisms are present in all ponds. Any time a physical abrasion damages fish tissue, bacterial and fungal pathogens seize the opportunity to infect the fish. Shipping, netting, and poor water quality also weaken the fish's immune system, permitting disease problems to occur. Skin and fin abrasions are an unavoidable part of fish keeping. Therefore the potential for disease problems occur with every new fish arrival, whether it is at the hatchery, fish wholesaler, pond shop, or in the pond.

External bacterial infections cause a variety of symptoms including split and ragged fins. In extreme cases the fins erode back to the body. MelaFix promotes regrowth of damaged fin rays and tissue. In test cases where fish had lost all tail and dorsal fins, MelaFix completely restored both fins to their original condition. The fish's eyes may become coated with a whitish slime or protrude from the head. Bacterial infections cause hazy, slimy patches to develop on the body. These patches may develop into red ulcers. "Mouth Fungus" caused by Flavobacterium (formerly Flexibacter), causes mouth tissue to deteriorate. MelaFix heals the wound and restores damaged tissue.

Directions for Use:

Shake well before using. Remove activated carbon and turn off UV and ozone-producing units during treatment period.

For recent wounds, fin damage, and infection: add one teaspoonful (5 ml) of MelaFix for every 50 U.S. gallons (190 L) or ¼ cupful (60 ml) for every 600 U.S. gallons (2,280 L) of pond water. Repeat dose daily for seven days. Treatment may be continued if necessary.

When treating an advanced or chronic infection: add two teaspoonful (10 ml) of MelaFix for every 50 U.S. gallons (190 L) or ¼ cupful (60 ml) for every 300 U.S. gallons (1,1400 L) of pond water. Repeat dose daily for seven days. Treatment may be continued if necessary.

When adding new fish to the pond, or when netting and handling fish: add one teaspoonful (5 ml) of MelaFix for every 50 U.S. gallons (190 L) or ¼ cupful (60 ml) for every 600 U.S. gallons (2,280 L) of pond water.
Compatibility:
MelaFix can we used with any PondCare water conditioning products including Stress Coat, Ammo-Lock, and Chlorine and Heavy Metal Neutralizer. MelaFix does not interfere with water quality test kits. MelaFix can be used with pond salt and formalin-based anti-parasitic treatments. MelaFix can be used in ornamental ponds, water gardens, aquariums, and fish holding tanks containing goldfish, koi, live plants, snails, tadpoles and frogs. A slight foaming at the water surface may occur during treatment with MelaFix. When exposed to elevated temperatures, MelaFix may turn cloudy in the bottle. This is normal and will not affect the activity of the product.

dimilin

PondCare® Dimilin

For the control of anchor worm (Lernaea) in ornamental ponds, water gardens, Koi ponds and display tanks containing fish including koi, goldfish and tropical ornamental fish.
Effectively controls anchor worm by interrupting the parasite's life cycle and reproductive processes.
Easy to use liquid will not discolor the water and can be used at any water temperature in ornamental ponds, water gardens and display tanks.

PondCare® Dimilin

Can I use PondCare MelaFix at the same time I'm using Dimilin?

MelaFix can be used anytime during the Dimilin treatment. We recommend treating with MelaFix for seven days to heal damaged skin and prevent secondary infections.

Can I give my fish a "salt bath" or use pond salt in the pond while using Dimilin?

Yes, but be careful. Salt baths for fish with anchor worms should be in a tub that is not used for other fish. When using the same tub for a salt bath for more than one fish, be sure to clean it completely, as anchor worms spread very easily.

Will Dimilin change the color of my pond water?

No. You can use Dimilin without change to your water color or clarity.

Can Dimilin be used with tropical fish?

Yes. Dimilin is formulated for use with ornamental fish, including koi, goldfish, comets, shubunkins, fantails, carp, fresh and saltwater tropical ornamental fish, coldwater aquarium fish, shiners, and minnows.

What are anchor worms and how do I know if I have them?

The most common symptom is the female worm embedded in the side of the fish. The anchor worm appears as a gray or black strand up to one inch (2.5 cm) in length. Algae can collect on the worm, giving it a green appearance and the point of entry may develop a red ulcer, due to secondary bacterial infections. You may also see two egg sacs hanging from the worm.

Eggs are released into the water, where they hatch into microscopic free-swimming copepods. The copepods feed on the fish mucus, but do not damage the fish. After mating, the female parasite then penetrates into the fish and anchors itself under the skin. The anchor can go so deep as to penetrate organs in smaller fish.

The female worms then develop two large egg sacs that can contain up to 700 eggs. Once the eggs hatch, the free-swimming parasites re-infest the fish. The parasite's life cycle is temperature dependent and can take as little as 15 days when the water is 86°F (30°C). Anchor worm infestations are most common on koi and goldfish.

How long will the anchor worms remain on the fish?

The female anchor worm will remain on the fish even though it is dead. The worm will disintegrate and fall off of the fish in time. There is no need to pull the worms off of the fish. This tends to rip the "anchor" out of the flesh and increase the chances of secondary infections.

pimafix

PondCare® PimaFix®

All-natural formula rapidly treats fungal infections on body and fins of pond fish. Also treats internal and external bacterial infections. Pimafix has been formulated to work in combination with Melafix to enhance effectiveness against fish diseases.

koi, goldfish, pond fish, backyard ponds, water gardens, garden

Purpose and Benefits:

Pond Care PimaFix is an all-natural medication derived from the leaves of Pimenta racemosa, the scientific name for the West Indian Bay Tree. PimaFix has powerful antifungal and antibacterial properties due to the multiple natural active compounds in PimaFix.

Disease-causing organisms are present in all ponds. Any time a physical abrasion damages fish tissue, fungal and bacterial pathogens seize the opportunity to infect the fish. Shipping, netting, and poor water quality also weaken the fishs immune system, permitting disease problems to occur. Skin and fin abrasions are an unavoidable part of fish keeping. Therefore the potential for disease problems occur with every new fish arrival, whether it is at the hatchery, fish wholesaler, pond shop, or in the pond.

Fungal infections can be seen as white fuzzy growth on the mouth, skin, and fins. PimaFix will stop the fungus and promote healing of damaged tissue. Bacterial infections appear as ulcers, ragged fins, and bloating. PimaFix treats internal and external bacterial infections in goldfish and koi.

 Directions for Use:

Shake well before using. Remove activated carbon and turn off UV and ozone-producing units during treatment period.

Add two teaspoonfuls (10 ml) of PimaFix for every 50 U.S. gallons (190 L) or 2 cupfuls (120 ml) for every 600 U.S. gallons (2,280 L) of pond water. Repeat dose daily for seven days. Treatment may be continued if necessary.

pond salt

PondCare® Pond Salt

Provide essential electrolytes fish need to survive with an all-natural salt, made from evaporated sea water. Improves gill function, protects against nitrite toxicity & reduces stress by helping to maintain a natural balance of electrolytes in the body fluids of pond fish. Can safely be used with all PondCare® water conditioners, filtration materials, medications & fish foods. Monitor salt levels with a PondCare Salt Level Test Kit.

Pond Salt 4.4lb carton $7.98 QTY

Purpose and Benefits:

PondCare Pond Salt is an all-natural salt intended for use in ornamental fish ponds and water gardens. PondSalt adds natural electrolytes, improves gill function, and reduces fish stress. Koi and goldfish actively maintain a natural balance of electrolytes in their body fluids. Electrolytes such as potassium, sodium, chloride, calcium and magnesium are removed from the water by chloride cells located on the gills. These electrolytes are essential for the uptake of oxygen, and the release of carbon dioxide. The lack of electrolytes can cause serious health problems for pond fish. During periods of disease and stress, healthy gill function is disturbed. This can lead to loss of electrolytes and osmotic shock. Osmotic shock reduces the ability of the gills to take up oxygen and release carbon dioxide and ammonia. Pond Salt reduces the risk of osmotic shock by replenishing natural electrolytes fish need.

Pond Salt can also be used to reduce the toxicity of nitrite to koi and gold fish. Nitrite (NO2-) enters the gills and prevents the blood from carrying oxygen, resulting in nitrite toxicity (methemoglobinemia). Pond Salt will temporarily block the toxic effects of nitrite until water quality can be improved.

Many external parasitic infestations (Trichodina, Ichthyobodo, and Epistylis) and fungal infections can be eradicated with a short-term bath.

Pond Salt contains no artificial additives, sugar, or color like table salt. It is made from evaporated sea water, which contains the following beneficial electrolytes needed by freshwater fish: calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, magnesium sulfate, potassium chloride, and sodium chloride.

 Directions for Use:

Once added to the pond, salt does not evaporate and is not filtered out! After making the initial treatment with Pond Salt, add more salt only when making a water change. If, for example, you remove 50 gallons with a water change add only enough salt for 50 gallons.

Ponds without plants:
Add one 2 ½ cupfuls (728 g) for every 100 U.S. gallons (378 L) of pond water. Sprinkle the salt evenly around the perimeter of the pond. After one hour, measure the salt level with the Salt level Test Kit. The salt level should be 0.2%. Add a small amount of salt if necessary. Make a 10% to 20% water change to reduce the salt level.

Certain aquatic plants are sensitive to salt; use this lower salt level when plants are present. Add one 1 1/4 cupfuls (364 g) for every 100 U.S. gallons (378 L) of pond water. Sprinkle the salt evenly around the perimeter of the pond. After one hour, measure the salt level with the Salt level Test Kit. The salt level should be 0.1%. Add a small amount of salt if necessary. Make a 10% to 20% water change to reduce the salt level.

Disease treatment:
Aquarium Salt may be used as a short-term bath to treat external parasites (Tricodina, Ichthyobodo, or Epistylis). Using a clean plastic container, dissolve 2 ½ cups (370 g) for every 10 U.S. gallons (40 L) of water. Do not use tap water. Carefully place the infested fish in the salt bath (2.0 %) for 5 to 10 minutes then.
DO NOT leave the fish in the salt bath for longer than 10 minutes. Be sure to cover the bath container with netting or similar material to prevent fish from jumping out of the bath container. After 10 minutes, place the treated fish back into the pond. The salt bath may be repeated in 24 hours if necessary.

Won't adding salt to my pond make it like saltwater?

No. The level of salt added is very low compared to seawater.

Will adding Pond Salt change the pH?

No. Pond Salt contains nothing that will change the pH.

I heard that salt adds oxygen to the water. Is this true?

No. The electrolytes in Pond Salt will help fish breathe but salt will not increase the oxygen level.

Will Pond Salt increase my water hardness?

No. There are trace amounts of calcium but not enough to cause an increase in hardness.

Will Pond Salt kill algae?

No. The concentration used in the pond will not kill algae. Some pond owners sprinkle salt directly on floating mats of algae but the results are quite unsatisfactory.

Will Pond Salt hurt my plants?

Some aquatic plants are sensitive to salt. By following our directions for use with plants, your aquatic plants will thrive.

Do I add Pond Salt every time I add water?

No. While water evaporates, salt does not. Add more salt only after making a water change. If you take out 100 gallons of water add only enough salt to treat the amount of water you add back to the pond (100 gallons). The PondCare Salt Level Test Kit makes adjusting the salt level easy. No more guessing, just test and see how much salt is needed.

Salt Treatment For Koi & Goldfish

Salt is an easy and affective treatment used for all cold water fish including Koi.

NON-IODIZED Salt ( canning salt, sea salt, water softener salt) are used in the treatment.

Salt, buffers the pond water soothing the gills and causing the fish to produce more slime to help fight bacteria invasion.

SALT APPLICATION RATES:

If the fish are showing signs of stress: 1% salt solution is added once per day for 3 days ( 1 pound of salt per 100 gallons of pond water / for small ponds - 1 tablespoon of salt per gallon of pond water )

The total solution of 3% will not harm most aquatic plants. But we have found that if you have tropical plants remove them and keep them in a separate container.

IF your fish are showing sighs of extreme stress (laying on their side , gasping for air, or very lethargic )

A 6% solution of salt is recommended and applied immediately.

Application is 6 pounds of salt per every 100 gallons of pond water.

Additional aeration is recommended .

At 6% salt solution it is recommended that all plants be removed.
